In July, the fabulous Moruya Jazz Festival promotional concert with George Washingmachine was a corker. George's virtuosity, vigour and humour with voice and violin were well up to his legendary standard, even though he was suffering
jet lag after recent appearances in Switzerland.
By deliberately performing at floor level next to the St Peters College Jazz
Band space, George created a superbly intimate nightclub atmosphere.
An extra special surprise was George's accompanying pianist, Peter Locke, who is regarded as the best jazz pianist going around in Australia. Peter was
excited to hear the Moruya Jazz Festival will have a properly tuned upright
piano in both the Monarch Lounge and CWA Hall at this years Festival and he expects the initiative will attract many more players of top quality.
George and Peter finished off the night with a magic gesture, joining Eddie
Bray and the St Peters College Jazz Band in a display of clever beats and
solos, not all of them from the professionals! The horn section, guitars
and bass player all had a chance to show their wares.
Festival patrons will clearly enjoy a treat when both George Washingmachine and St Peters College return in October.
Country Energy Family Picnic:
The Parade will start from Apex Park at 10.30 am Saturday moving down the main street to Russ Martin Park, beside the river. A true Community event with horses, boats, tractors, trailers, vintage cars, musicians, choirs and of course, jazz bands.
The festival will run on GREEN POWER thanks to sponsor Country Energy
Inaugural Festival of Voice:
A "Festival of Voice" will form a new concept of this year's 13th annual Moruya Jazz Festival. This new initiative will be celebrated in the historic Mechanics Institute on the afternoon of Saturday 24th October. The Festival of Voice will provide an exiting and spectacular focus for singers, and is open to individual singers, small singing groups and choirs. A registration form for Festival of Voice singers is available (click here for application).
Those wanting to know more can contact Gloria Bell, 4472 3539 or Sharon Hendren, 4474 0063.
The Moruya Jazz Festival Committee is thrilled by the interest already shown by popular local groups such as Narooma Acappella, The Strange Weather Gospel Choir and the upbeat Fiona Jones and Sarah Leaver duo, Fi Soulsa.

A change at this years Moruya Jazz Festival will be a non denominational Gospel Jazz Service to be held on Sunday 25th October at 10.30am.
The service, conducted by Kay Killick, will be held in the RSL Hall, replacing the popular Uniting Church service of previous years. The hall is a much larger venue providing more room for the growing congregation.
The legendary George Washingmachine and his band will be providing the music this year. Sing Australia Choir will make their enthusiastic presence felt and Steve Johnston will sing The Lord’s Prayer.
Any other musicians or choristers, who would like to participate are very welcome.
This happy event is open to everyone – of all denominations or none.
There will be a retiring collection in aid of the Moruya and District Hospital Auxiliary.
